Lifeboat Trouble, Probably 1958 - Memories of Redcar

I'm not sure how it happened, but the lifeboat trailer slipped off the side of Lifeboat Bank in bad weather and became bogged down in the sand. Left overnight, it sunk further and had to be recovered using mechanical diggers.

One of my brothers is in the background of a couple of these photographs, wearing a captain's cap.

The last photograph is from about the same period. This time, the cat, the caterpillar tractor used to tow the lifeboat to and from the sea, became bogged down and had to be rescued by a chain of tractors belonging to local fishermen.
